Field Trips

​DAY TRIPS
Portola Highly Gifted Magnet students may go on a wide variety of field trips that further expand upon and enrich the subjects that they are learning about in school. Trip locations may change from year to year based on teacher curriculum. Previous trips included:
  • The Autry Museum of the American West
  • The Getty Villa
  • Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)
  • The Museum of Tolerance (MOT)
  • Norton Simon Museum
  • Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)
  • Japanese American National Museum (JANM)
  • Educational Marine Biological Adventures with Reef Check (EMBARC)
  • California Science Center
  • Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum

OVERNIGHT FIELD TRIPS
Each year, Portola MPA offers overnight field trips for our students over a weekend during the school year. Past trips have included Pali Camp, Astrocamp, and California Island Marine Institute. Please be aware that these are optional trips  organized by the Magnet Parents Association, not LAUSD. Cost of the trip covers camp fee, insurance, and transportation from/to Portola Middle School, TBD per student.

In previous years, 8th grade students have been offered the opportunity to go on a field trip to Washington, D.C., Gettysburg, VA, and Hershey, PA,​​ organized by WorldStrides.
