2020-2021 After school enrichment classes

The Magnet Parents Association (MPA), in conjunction with our teachers, offers some exciting after-school activities for Magnet students. Below are classes offered for the Fall semester of 2020.​
Please use the link below to sign up for enrichment classes.  These classes are organized by the MPA and are open to Magnet students only.  Space is limited and admission is based on the order in which registrations are received. 
You will receive an email with payment information when registration closes, and your child's spot is confirmed. The deadline to register is Friday, September 4, 2020.  Do not make payment until your child’s spot has been confirmed via email. 

2020-2021 Class description

MathCounts 1st Semester (All Grades) - Ms. Toboroski
Students practice their problem-solving skills via mathematics. This class helps students develop confidence and proficiency in mathematical problem solving.
Class Fee: $155
Mondays 3:00 - 4:00 PM

Minimum # of Students: 10
Maximum # of Students: 25


Debate (All Grades) - Mr. Stevenson
Are you interested in developing your abilities in public speaking, argumentation, and persuasion? Learn not only how to debate, but also how to listen to opposing viewpoints and come up with persuasive counterarguments.
Class Fee: $155

Science & Engineering Inquiry Lab (Grades 7 and 8) - Ms. Gramajo
Science and Engineering Inquiry Lab is geared for students who need help with their science and engineering fair projects. In this course, the students will receive guidance on how to research a topic of interest, develop research skills; the course will make suggestions and connect students with experts in their field of interest.

Humanities (Grades 7 and 8) - Mr. Goldstein
Humanities includes all the creative and artistic endeavors of mankind throughout the development and evolution of the human race. Humanities consists of but is not limited to: Painting and Pictorial Art, Sculpture, Architecture, Music, Theater, Opera and Musical Theater, Dance, The Printed Image (prints, photos, digital arts), Literature, and Movies. In the course we will learn the different types and traditions of a specific topic, learn how to analyze that topic, and finally come to conclusions on the significance of the topic in the ongoing development of the human race and society.

Wednesdays 3:00 - 4:00 PM

Writer's Lab (8th Grade) - Mrs. Miller
Having trouble understanding the assigned reading? Got writer's block? Bring your questions and rough drafts to the Writer's Lab where Mrs. Miller will reinforce grammar lessons for improved editing, lead deeper discussions of the literature, provide extra practice to hone revision skills, and conference with students for individualized feedback on essays.
Class Fee: $155
Mondays 3:00 - 4:00 PM

Minimum # of Students: 10
Maximum # of Students: 15

There are no after school classes when school is not in session, minimum days, Halloween and last week of school before winter recess. There is no late bus, so parents are responsible for picking up their children after class.
