Now, more than ever, the HGM community needs to come together. Please join our “Separated but Connected” campaign to raise the money we need to fully fund the programs that make us unique. As the only public middle school in Los Angeles exclusively dedicated to the needs of highly gifted students, Portola HGM relies on our parent community’s generous support of the Magnet Annual Giving program. We’re separated but still connected, and we need 100% participation from our families to safeguard what makes the HGM so special.

Every dollar you donate goes directly towards our students and staff. Your donations help to fund our Enrichment Classes, Field Trips, Academic Competitions like our award-winning Science Fair and our Robotics Team, Battle of the Books, Model United Nations, Orchestra, Spelling Bee and others. Your dollars pay for classroom materials not provided by LAUSD – things like high school and college-level textbooks, advanced science lab equipment and more. Your dollars also help to cover the salaries of our Magnet Coordinator and a full-time Teachers’ Aide, both of whom are exclusively dedicated to the HGM student body. New expenses unique to the distance learning model mean the need is even greater; from funding new hardware, software and online educational platforms to the cost of DIY Science Kits for lab work at home, we continue to rely on your monetary support.

Our fundraising goal is $100,000 but the real success is 100% participation; please give what you can so we can include your family in this campaign. We are suggesting a $650 donation per student to cover the costs of our 2020 / 2021 programs, but more (or less) is equally welcome. Monthly payment plans or credit card payment options are available through Zelle and through PayPal Giving. We strongly encourage online giving due to social distancing, campus closure and USPS delays. If necessary, paper checks can still be made out to “Portola Magnet Parent Association” and mailed to:

Enroll and Re-Enroll your Ralphs Reward card EVERY SEPTEMBER and a percentage of your grocery spending goes to Portola Magnet. You can link your Rewards card to Portola Highly Gifted following these steps:

Register (or login, if you already have a Ralph's account) online here. Go to Community Rewards under My Account, click on the "Enroll" button. In the search box, type in "93761" (Portola Highly Gifted Magnet's Organization number), or enter "Portola Highly Gifted Magnet". Select it and double check and make sure Portola Highly Gifted Magnet shows up in your Account Summary page under the Community Rewards section in the bottom.

Please note that Ralphs requires the customers to re-enroll on an annual basis. If you have previously enrolled, but it has been a while, it does not hurt to check and to make sure that you still have Portola Highly Gifted identified in your Community Rewards section of your account summary page.​
