Congratulations to Portola's Got Talent 2019 Grand Prize Winner, Turner who performed a fantastic guitar performance of Bon Jovi's Dead or Alive!
Our 8th graders are studying physics so a special guest from Carnegie Observatories dropped in to speak to them today about electromagnetic waves and how they are used to determine the composition of the stars, exoplanets and everything around us.
Over 20 Portola HGM students participated today at History Day LA. Excited to announce that one of our teams placed 1st! THEY ARE GOING TO SACRAMENTO FOR STATE COMPETITION! We also have a second team that placed 2nd and a third team who received honorable mention. So proud of our students and appreciative of our amazing teachers! #portolahgm #makinghistory
Last week our marine biology elective students participated in a Reef Check with the EMBARC education program in Marina Del Rey. They spent three hours on a highly interactive marine conservation course that was taught by marine scientists on a boat out on the ocean. They learned all about California’s native marine ecosystems, they reviewed shark adaptations, learned about plankton, participated in a plankton tow and even carried out scientific testing of seawater. #ecology #marinebiology #handsonlearning
Last night our 7th and 8th grade students and their families got to meet some "High School Insiders"- nine former students of Portola HGM who have gone on to five schools (North Hollywood HGM, Granada Charter, Cleveland Humanities, Taft, and Reseda Science). These students came back for a night of candid Q & A in which parents and students were able to ask the students about their different programs, and get more information from our very own alumni!
October 16th is Digital Citizenship day at Portola! During class, students will learn what it takes to be a good Digital Citizen.
