instrumental MUSIC AT PORTOLA HGM

Picture
Portola HGM's music program offers three levels of string orchestra and two levels of wind band classes. Whether the student is a novice player or seasoned musician, there is a class for everyone! Students learn to play violins, violas, celli and basses as well as a variety of wind instruments like flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion.

The ensembles perform in concerts and special events held on and off campus. The advanced groups perform high school level repertoire of classical and contemporary music. For many years the program worked in partnership with the Los Angeles Philharmonic which provided extra coaching to our students. The groups also enjoy field trips to the Disney Concert Hall to attend performances by the L.A. Philharmonic.

The advanced ensembles have also performed at Disneyland, Universal Studios and Knotts Berry Farm.
